Quiet, private, remote beautiful beach and hotel

Chicago, Illinois

Oct 9, 2010 | Trip type: Couples New

We loved everything about this hotel – loved that it doesn’t remotely resemble the ridiculous mega hotel-circuses you find all over the beach in Playa. Only issues were the very spotty internet access and traveling back and forth to Playa on a very bumpy road (the hotel is a few miles north of Playa “downtown”). The staff was subtle, helpful, genuine and didn’t seem forced into friendliness. Breakfast was good and filling (and included in our price!), dinner was pretty good; great beef/cheese chimichangas, corn soup and scallops and they had decent liquor/beer. This hotel has an open air atmosphere throughout (common areas and rooms) and really shows off it’s pretty the beach. This is an adults-only place and it felt very secluded and quiet. One of the staff told us that the resort was a wedding gift between a Canadian couple – how romantic. I highly recommend this resort if you want to be off the beaten path and prefer subtley and quality without pretentiousness.

“A Few More Steps & Le Reve Could Be Excellent”

Oct 9, 2010 | Trip type: Couples New

My husband & I booked Le Reve over the 3 day Labor Day weekend. We also have a difference in opinion on Le Reve and maybe he’ll post his side. Couples huh………………

We booked the most expensive room in the house which was an oceanfront casita with
private pool. When they said ocean front it truly meant ocean front. The casita was less than 10 feet from the beach itself. Incredible.

Here’s the list of “a few more steps to excellence” – At the price point of the casita using other 4 to 5 stars hotels we stayed at as a basis: The airconditioner didn’t work, we moved to a different casita but the air conditioning couldn’t keep up. Since the casita has a thatched roof I assume it can’t cool. Talked to another casita couple from the Midwest and they had the same issue. Le Reve has room service, neither casita had a room service menu I had to ask for the large bulky menus from the restaurant and keep them in the room. Turn down service 1 night of the 3, never emptied the trash never left clean towels. The bathroom as in water closet/toliet has no door. My pet peeve might not bother others. The bathroom counter had two sinks so there wasn’t any space to put down a makeup bag or shaving kit. Bottom line – improve turn down, leave towels and room service menu, invest in a better split air conditioning unit and for those shy gals who like bathroom time to be me time, maybe a door in the commode area.

Here’s the 4 star part :
Food -Breakfast as in a “full breakfast” is including in our rate. NICE loved it and they will serve that comp breakfast in your casita. Food overall was good, one night not so good and they comped it and the staff was sweet about the comp.

Staff- They are 5 star perfect. The perfect combination of friendly without overly in your face friendly, professional, talkative, accomodating and concerned that you have a wonderful experience. I can’t say enough great things about Le Reve’s staff. Love Jacquline the manager and Freddy our waiter for both food & drinks.

Spa- I didn’t exactly see a spa room per say but my husband and I had an excellent massage. Le Reve has a 2 story open air tower above the pool area where our massage took place so we had a nice breeze and the ocean in our ears during service. My massage was swedish and I put the massage itself in my top 5 list.

Beach/Pool Area/Bar – Again this hotel is on the beach, very very close to the shore. It doesn’t get any better than that. Nice pool, wish there were steps to get into the pool for those of us older travelers, it’s hard on the knees. There is a slope on one side to walk in though. Great cocktails served by great staff.

Location – 50 minutes to Cancun Airport. 15 to 20 minutes to downdown Playa Del Carmen. On the same strip of beach as The Tides if you’re familar with the area.

Overall – Small boutique hotel, a lot of heart & charm. Would I return………yes but not at the casita rate since it didn’t deliver the goods at that price. This hotel is ideal for couples, honeymooners. Great to hold a wedding where you rent the entire hotel. Euro’s would also love the rustic Yucatan feel to this place.

Exceeded all my expectations!

Le Reve is one of the most romantic and peaceful places we have ever been to. We spent the last few days of our trip to the Yucatan Peninsula at the hotel and had a great time. The hotel was the perfect place to finish our trip, we relaxed by the pool and enjoyed the Margaritas Freddy prepared for us. Our room was comfortable and the bed was one of the best we’ve ever slept on! The last night of our trip we enjoyed a romantic dinner (the food was delicious) on the beach. The setting was made so romantic by the torch lights and the sound of the waves. It is definitely a moment we will not forget! It was hard to leave but we hope we can return soon.

Simply PERFECT!

Sep 20, 2010

My fiance and I are currently planning our destination wedding in Mexico and Le Reve was on our list of possible venues. So we decided to travel down there and see if the pictures and good reviews were actually true. After renting a car in Cancun, we drove the incredibly easy 45min to the Playa Del Carmen area and turned off onto a dirt and headed toward the beach. After only a few minutes on the little back road, we came upon Le Reve and what can only be described as one of the most beautiful hotel lobbies I have ever seen. From the moment you arrive, you are surrounded by incredible views of the ocean. The entire hotel has an open feel to it and yet it feels cozy when you are there. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly the entire time. Our amazing waiter Freddy even gave my fiance some of their secret (and amazing!) hot sauce to take home. Speaking of food, the restaurant is simply amazing! Our breakfast every morning was truly delicious! Fresh fruit, fresh bread, delicious entree!

I could on and on about every part of this hotel and how wonderful it is, but you obviously get my opinion on it. Needless to say, we are definitely having our wedding here and couldn’t think of a better hotel or better staff to share this occasion with.

Our wedding site visit!

September 2010

We just came back from our site visit to Le Reve.  Le Reve was amazing!  The location is absolutely gorgeous! We are very happy to have found this place to hold our wedding July 2011.

The road to the hotel was a bit rough, however as soon as we got to the hotel our entire experience was wonderful.  The view from the reception is truly breathtaking and Arlenis the on-site wedding coordinator was so helpful, she gave us a tour of the hotel right after we did our check in.

The rooms were really nice and most of them have ocean view.  Our favorite was definitely the beach bungalow and will be staying there on our wedding weekend.

The beach area was perfect for the ceremony but we haven’t decided yet where we want the reception.

We had dinner at the hotel the first night there and the food was delicious.  We had our menu tasting the following night and we are set on our dinner menu.  Everything felt easy and hassle free.  The staff made us feel at home and were very attentive of what we needed.  We can’t wait to have our wedding at Le Reve.

Our countdown has started!

My fiance and I visited Le Reve in August. We were in Mexico to scope out hotels for our wedding next year. We were so incredibly happy during our stay at Le Reve! The staff goes out of their way to make sure your stay is the best it can be. They get to know you, and make themselves available for your every need. The rooms are beautiful and the beds are incredibly comfortable. We stayed in a bungalow room, and had a private pool that led right to the beach outside of our room. The food is absolutely amazing – great flavors. We were happy with every single meal we ate. The drinks are fantastic, too! They have an amazing pool and very comfortable pool chairs. It is very close to Playa Del Carmen, so we went to dinner in town one night – the staff made an amazing dinner recommendation! We would definitely go back to Le Reve. Unfortunately, the hotel was a little too small for our wedding party (they only 25 rooms and we are expecting more guests than can fit) but it truly is a hidden gem, and we highly recommend it!

“Our home in the Caribbean”

The staff at Le Reve was great!!!! We felt right at home from the moment the taxi dropped us off. Everyone at Le Reve was always looking out for us without being overwhelming. Tasty drinks and snacks were brought over with just a wave of our hand. Everyone greeted us by our names which made us feel special. This hotel is perfect for a romantic getaway, the location was a bit difficult to get to but once you get there you forget about the rest of the world! We spent most of our days at the infinity pool or at the terrace of our Master Suite (the views were incredible). We’ve already made arrangements for our next weekend getaway. We loved the Riviera Maya as it is convenient and close to travel from NY and it makes a perfect escape from the city.

A hidden gem – literally

Sao Paulo

Spent my honeymoon there – amazing romatic hotel. Rooms are great, great elegant decor, very comfortable and private. All amenities are there, and the room we stayed at was right at the beach – what an incredible sensation.
Staff was incredible – breakfast was included at the rate and was delicious.
Pool is amazing – looks small at first but then you remember it’s a small/private hotel, so the pool is big enough.
The beach is is also great, big doubt about where to spend the day – pool or beach?
It’s not cheap, but it’s worth the price for special moments.
The only note is that you really need a car to get to this hotel – it’s a bit isolated (which adds a lot of charm and privacy to your stay) and you have to pay close attention to the signs to get there (especially at night) and be aware that’s a land road. 15 min driving from Playa, so it was easy to get there for dinner and night fun – just take care with the Mexican policemen at the road – they will try to extort money from you at any cost, as they know it’s a very touristic road – watch the speed limit and enjoy.

We just came back from a wonderful trip to the Riviera Maya and we had a fantastic stay at Le Rêve. My husband and I visited Le Rêve because some friends of ours recommended the place to us. This was such a great recommendation. The location was perfect. Secluded yet not too far of the main attractions. We found the Riviera Maya not only fabulous for its beaches but it’s also an area rich in historical and cultural places. We were able to visit so many interesting archaelogical sites around the area.
Le Rêve is gorgeous and the staff made us feel like very welcome. The food was delicious. Do not miss out on the “Beef Ceviche”! Thanks to everyone at Le Rêve for making this happen. We will be back soon.

This place was great from start to finish. Check in was a small booth, on top of driveway. You look out to a beautiful pool and ocean. We had the bungalow #401 and it was amazing. Thatched roof, sliding doors out to a patio to a private pool to a beatiful ocean, what more can you ask for. The food was outstanding, breakfast was on the house daily and amaing everyday. We ate lunches and dinners here and even had a romantic dinner on the beach. I can’t even begin to tell you how good the food was, I’ll be here all day! The beach was rocky but fine for us. I would like to thank Freddy, Mario, Roberto and Ivan for an amazing time, they went out of there way to make our stay perfect. Thanks guys!!

I went down to Playa del Carmen for my husbands birthday and I had seen the pictures in their web page but I never imagined the sight and the hotel would be so amazing. We stayed there for a couple of days and we enjoyed everything in the resort. The hotel staff was so friendly and the service was excellent. The ceviches are the best things I have ever ate. We stayed at one of the bungalows and it was beautiful, we could walk up to the sea in 10 steps and the beach is quiet and just what we needed for a romantic getaway. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to have a good time and let themselves be treated to de best food, service and sights in Playa del Carmen!

I agree with the posts mentioning that the bed was amazing. I liked it so much that we took a photo of the brand and make (Sealy Comfort Side) so we can buy it at home! The room was very tastefully decorated (we got the standard downstairs suite), which included a garden. The rain shower was beautiful, we heard no noise from the other suites at all. The hotel has a turndown service was lovely.

The staff greet you by name and were friendly and extremely helpful. Mayra helped us book tours (I can recommend Aventuras Mayas snorkel adventure) and even our next hotel. But the thing I loved the most was the infinity pool overlooking the ocean. It was like being in a post card.

Yes, it is true that the water in front of the hotel has a few rocks in it, the upside is that few people swim there making the view even more perfect.

It was absolute heaven, and you can rent out the whole place (25 rooms) for a wedding if you want.

Lunch was excellent we stayed for lunch on our last day so that we could the chicken tacos. They were expensive but awesome!!

The pool was perfect and yes, the temperature was perfect as were the cushioned lounge chairs.

If you like to sail you can rent a catamaran from the all inclusive further down the beach (who also have a nice beach) called Sandos Caracol for about $30 US for an hour.

Wonderful time!

My husband and I were on a road trip across the Mexican Peninsula and had the best stay by far at Le Reve, even after spending more money and having bigger expectations for other places.
Le Reve was our favorite because of its great location, serenity and comfort.

Location:

Other places we stayed in were in the middle of the action (downtown Merida and Cancun) or too isolated (Tulum) and Le Reve hit the perfect balance for us. We could take a short drive in our rented car and be in Playa del Carmen’s 5th Ave. for a walk with all of the other tourists and do a little souvenir shopping. There are plenty of stop lights on the way into town to slow you down even though its supposed to be a highway, but it was about 15 minutes.

Serenity:
My husband and I both agree that this has something to do with the location since the hotel is fairly isolated, but it’s more than that. We stayed at another isolated hotel and never really got the same feeling. Maybe it was the waiters who brought us drinks on the beach or breakfast in bed as we looked out over the palm trees and beach. It’s something you can’t really put your finger on, but the mix of a great staff, location, food and the building itself come together to create a sort of contagious “vibe” that really put us at ease.

Comfort:
Great bed. Really. I can’t say enough about it. Our room had a shower looking over the ocean that we really enjoyed. The pool was also at just the right temperature and the reclining deck chairs felt like they were made to fit our bodies perfectly.

In short, great place. I’d definitely recommend Le Reve (we already have!) to anyone for just about anything, but especially for a vacation for couples.
